Presidential commission to probe CB bond issue!

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the attorney general to appoint a presidential commission of investigation to take legal measures with regard to accusations over the Central Bank bond issue.
A gazette will be issued this week announcing the panel comprising a Supreme Court judge, a High Court judge and an audit specialist.
It will be asked to submit a report of recommendations within three months.
A statement issued by the President’s Media Unit says the president has asked all relevant sectors to support this commission in carrying out its duties.
The president has taken the measure in view of a report received following lengthy discussions with government officials and financial advisers over accusations of government inaction with regard to the CB bond issue.
That report has recommended a freezing of the accounts of Perpetual Treasuries, the firm involved in the bond issue.
