Government bigwig swallows 3.07 billion rice consignment.
A shipment of 29,239 metric tons of Nadu rice imported by Lanka Sathosa in November 2015, has disappeared, according to Audit reports.
The value of the mysteriously disappeared rice stock is Rs. 3.07 billion.
The cost per kilo of rice is around Rs. 105.
The cost per kilo was so high due to the addition of port taxes, storage costs, electricity charges, labour charges and interest on loans obtained, it is reported.
The stock of rice had mysteriously disappeared three months after the current regime came to power around August 2015, it is believed.
